LA State Loan Repayment Program
The State Loan Repayment Program is available to primary care practitioners providing services in a public or non-profit facility in a federally designated HPSA.Physicians and dentists can receive up to $25,000 per year for a two or three-year commitment. Mid-levels can receive up to $10,000 per year for a two or three-year commitment. A monthly check will repay governmental or commercial educational loans obtained by the practitioner which have been consolidated into one loan.
$5,000 LA State Income Tax Credit
Providers practicing in a rural area can earn a tax credit of up to $5,000 per year for up to five years.
Medicare Bonus Payments
Physicians in geographic HPSAs can receive a 10% Medicare bonus payment for some services, while those in Physician Scarcity Areas can receive a 5% Medicare bonus payment.
National Health Service Corps (NHSC)
NHSC provides scholarship and loan repayment for primary care clinicians who serve in an approved site. NHSC offers up to $25,000 per year in loan repayment for a two-year commitment. Clinicians can receive up to $35,000 per year for an extended practice commitment. NHSC scholars can receive tuition payments and a monthly stipend for a two, three or four-year practice commitment.
J-1 Visa Waiver Program
The J-1 Visa Waiver (Conrad State 30) Program recruits needed primary care and specialty physicians into federally designated health professional shortage areas. An interested site should apply to the Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) for a predetermination of eligibility for the recruitment of a J-1 Visa Waiver physician.
Louisiana Rural Loan Fund
The Rural Loan Fund provides capital for rural health care projects to health professionals, hospitals, local and tribal governments and nonprofit organizations.
